CHEOPS Science Workshop and Open Time Workshop

    Location: Schloss Seggau, Leibnitz, Austria
Date: 24-26 July 2017 (Science Workshop); 26-27 July 2017 (Open Time Workshop)

The CHaracterising ExOPlanet Satellite (CHEOPS) is the first ESA S-class mission, in partnership with Switzerland, and will be dedicated to search for transits by means of ultra-high precision photometry on bright stars already known to host planets. Targeting launch readiness at the end of 2018, the mission will have a nominal lifetime of 3.5 years with 20% of the observing time available to the General Community through an ESA-run Guest Observers Programme.

Registration has opened for two CHEOPS workshops that will be held at Schloss Seggau, near Leibnitz in southern Austria at the end of July 2017, with the objective of bringing together the community interested in the mission and its scientific exploitation:

    • the 5th Annual CHEOPS Science Workshop will run from 24 to 26 July and will focus on CHEOPS science: priority will be given to describing the implementation of the Guaranteed Time Observations and to exploring the synergies with other exoplanet missions and observational facilities. Ample time will be devoted to discussions.

Participants are invited to submit contributions - oral or poster - on any scientific aspect relevant to the mission, with a deadline for abstract submission of 30 April 2017.

Bursaries are available to help both PhD students and early career postdocs attend the workshop.

    • the ESA CHEOPS Open Time Workshop will run from 26 to 27 July, immediately after the Science Workshop, and is designed to inform users from the scientific community about the CHEOPS Guest Observers opportunity: talks will provide an overview of the mission – its capabilities, scientific objectives, payload and specifications, observing modes and performances, schedule and data products – as well details on how to access CHEOPS data and to apply for observing time on the satellite.

The deadline for registration for both workshops is 1 July 2017.

Further details on the workshops, including registration, can be found at the 5th CHEOPS Science Workshop and CHEOPS Open Time Workshop web pages.
