In 2007, three large ('L-class') missions, namely, EJSM-Laplace, IXO and LISA, were selected for an Assessment Phase study following a Call for Missions for the first L-class mission opportunity in ESA's Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 plan. In 2011, ESA decided on a new way forward for these L-class mission candidates to take account of developments with ESA's international partners. During the reformulation exercise LISA became NGO.
The ESA L3 Gravitational Wave Mission - Gravitational Observatory Advisory Team Final Report 04 May 2016 This is the final report from the Gravitational Observatory Advisory Team (GOAT). Following the selection of the science theme "The Gravitational Universe" for the L3 mission, the GOAT was established to advise on the scientific and technological approaches for a gravitational wave observatory with a planned launch date in 2034.
