Comet 67P/C-G on 16 February 2015 - NavCam montage

Date: 19 February 2015
Satellite: Rosetta
Depicts: Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Copyright: ESA/Rosetta/NAVCAM, CC BY-SA IGO 3.0

Montage of four images taken by Rosetta's navigation camera (NavCam) on 16 February 2015 at an average distance of 226.5 km from the centre of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The image scale is about 19.3 m/pixel and the individual frames each measure about 19.8 km across.

The four images were taken in sequence as a 2×2 raster over a short period of about twenty minutes, meaning that there is some motion of the spacecraft and rotation of the comet between the images.

The image has been cleaned to remove the more obvious bad pixels and cosmic ray artefacts, and intensities have been scaled.

The four individual images are available as related images in the right-hand menu. A mosaic of the four images stitched together is available here.

More images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko can be found in the '67P - by Rosetta' collection.
