M-class missions presentation event 2009
On 1 December 2009, the six M-class missions currently under assessment as part of the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 Programme will be presented to the scientific community and the Advisory Structure to the ESA Science Programme

EJSM/Laplace Call for Payload Study Consortia
EJSM/Laplace Call for Payload Study Consortia
On 26 March ESA issued a "Call for Declarations of Interest in Science Instrumentation" for the L-class Cosmic Vision mission study EJSM/Laplace, soliciting proposals that outline the composition of nationally funded consortia to carry out assessment level studies.

ESA announces preliminary payload selection for Solar Orbiter
A suite of 10 instruments has been selected as the scientific payload for the ESA Solar Orbiter mission.

Mission Summary Cross-Scale is dedicated to quantifying the coupling in plasmas between different physical scales, in order to address fundamental questions such as: how shocks accelerate and heat particles; how reconnection converts magnetic energy and how turbulence transports energy.
Mission Summary   of
Mission Summary Mapping the geometry of the dark Universe by investigating the distance-redshift relationship and the evolution of cosmic structures through two complementary methods: baryonic acoustic oscillations measurements and weak gravitational lensing, from an optical/NIR survey of all galaxies and clusters of galaxies out to z~2
Mission Summary   of
Mission Summary The main goal of the mission is to return a sample from a Near-Earth Object belonging to a primitive class to the Earth, which will allow study of the formation of the solar system and the planets, characterisation of a Near-Earth Object as a representative of a primitive solar system body, and contribute to the field of astrobiology.
Mission Summary   of
Mission Summary The primary goal of PLATO is to open a new way in exoplanetary science, by providing a full statistical analysis of exoplanetary systems around stars that are bright and nearby enough to allow for simultaneous and/or later detailed studies of their host stars.
Mission Summary   of
Mission Summary Approaching the Sun as close as 48 solar radii, Solar Orbiter will view the solar atmosphere with high spatial resolution and combine this with measurements made in-situ. Over the extended mission periods Solar Orbiter will deliver images and data that will cover the polar regions and the side of the Sun not visible from Earth.
Mission Summary   of
Mission Summary The scientific capabilities of SPICA will be unique to probe galaxy, star and planetary system formation, as well as the evolution of dust and gas in the interstellar medium of our own and distant galaxies.
Mission Summary   of
Mission Summary LAPLACE/EJSM is to carry out an in-depth study of Europa and the Jupiter system, with special emphasis on studying Europa's habitability in the global context of the Jupiter system.
Mission Summary   of
Mission Summary IXO, the International X-ray Observatory, is the X-ray observatory candidate within the Cosmic Vision Plan. The primary goals are to investigate black holes and matter under extreme conditions, to study the formation and evolution of galaxies, clusters and large scale structure, and to look at the life cycles of matter and energy.
Mission Summary   of
Mission Summary A three-spacecraft interferometer with an arm length of 5 million kilometres and the primary goal to detect and observe gravitational waves from astronomical sources in a frequency range of 0.0001 Hz to 0.1 Hz
