In June 1986 the ESA Council adopted a resolution for the creation of the optional programme called PRODEX (PROgramme de Dévelop-pement d'EXpériences scientifiques). The PRODEX Programme Office fulfils the role of coordinating experiment development and awarding industrial contracts.
