Ulysses Science Working Team meeting09 Apr 1999 Scientists from around the world are meeting next week (April 14) to discuss the latest results and science operations issues connected with the Ulysses mission.
High on the agenda for the Ulysses Science Working Team (SWT) at ESTEC, Noordwijk, in The Netherlands, will be a discussion of possible onboard power-saving measures that will help to extend the useful lifetime of the mission well into the next decade. The current mission is approved until December 2001 but the excellent health of the European-built space probe, now in its ninth year of operations, makes continued operations an attractive possibility. The polarity of the Sun's magnetic field will "flip" sometime in 2000/2001 and scientists are eager to view this new environment from Ulysses' unique out-of-ecliptic perspective. The two-day Ulysses SWT meeting begins on April 14 and more details will be posted on this website as they become available.
