A daytime view of Mercury and the stars

Stars near the solar eclipse of 11 August 1999, plotted from Hipparcos data using the Xephem program, which introduces the positions of the planets too. The vantage point is assumed to be in Dieppe, France, with the direction of view towards the eclipsed Sun. The apparent size of Sun and Moon is exaggerated.
