    EPIC PN camera repaired

    11 Jan 1999

The EPIC PN camera has been repaired and re-installed on the Focal Plana assembly at Dornier. Thermal vacuum testing on the lower half of the XMM spacecraft continues in the test facilities at ESTEC, Noordwijk.

There was an alert last week when a power supply exploded and generated smoke in the control room. Having lost the external power supply the spacecraft went autonomously in the 'eclipse mode' powered by on-board batteries, while the crew on watch replaced the defunct power supply. The test then resumed its normal sequence.
