No. 14 - Second ROSINA Commissioning Slot

Report for week 21 to 28 May 2004Payload commissioning activities continued in the reporting period, with the execution of the second ROSINA commissioning slot. The DFMS and RTOF instruments were tested, with high voltage operations and the final successful acquisition of spectra from DFMS. RTOF commissioning will be completed in the autumn commissioning slot as planned. SREM was also activated for 24 hours to check stability of the instrument temperature.

On the subsystems side the Reaction Control Subsystem was isolated on 24 May, following the completion of the orbital manoeuvres. On-board software patching and configuration activities were carried out on 27 May to simplify the operational workaround strategy to keep the Antenna Pointing Motor off when the antenna is not moved.

Rosetta has reached perihelion on 24 May at 17:00. Its minimum distance from the Sun was 132.6 million kilometres. At the end of the last New Norcia pass in the reporting period (DOY 149, 02:00) Rosetta was at 40.3 million kilometres from the Earth. The one-way signal travel time was 2 minutes 14 seconds.
