No. 21 - Huygens Closes In

The Huygens probe is just 24 hours away from entry into the upper atmosphere of Titan and the start of its 2.5 hour descent to the moon's surface.

The above graphic, released by NASA and based on data acquired during the Titan A fly-by in October, shows the target landing site and the DISR instrument field-of-view and corresponding image resolution at different altitudes.

As Huygens descends through the atmosphere it will conduct a range of studies including analysis of the composition of the atmosphere and measurements of windspeed.

Updates on the descent will be posted on saturn.esa.int
