    VIRTIS infrared composite image of the Moon

    Images of the Moon taken at three different infrared wavelengths were used to create this composite view. The images were taken at 2225 nm, 3000 nm and 3650 nm.

    The false colour is a diagnostic of the difference between Maria and Highland regions, located across the boundary between the reflective region (below 3000 nm) and the emissive region of the lunar spectrum. Red colours represent maria regions while blue regions are highlands.
