Largest Magnetic Reconnection Region Ever Observed

Date: 11 Jan 2006
Satellite: Cluster
Depicts: Illustration of the Cluster, ACE and WIND spacecraft observing the magnetic reconnection region
Copyright: Courtesy of Matt Davis and Tai Phan, SSL, UC Berkeley, USA

Largest reconnection X-line found in the solar wind between the Sun and the Earth (white line). The plasma jets directions associated with the magnetic reconnection process are symbolised by red arrows embedded in the jets (colour coded in orange).
