Transport of Planck Telescope FM to ESTEC

23 Jun 2006 13:27

The Planck telescope Flight Model (FM) has been put on a transport at Alcatel Alenia Space in Cannes for its journey to ESTEC in Noordwijk the Netherlands. The airco system was successfully installed on the transport and validated.

The telescope FM left Alcatel Alenia Space at 01:00 am on 22 June 2006.  It was planned to make a first stop in Fréjus at 03:00 am.  From there it was to depart again at 05:00 to arrive at Avignon 10:30 in the morning of 23 June.

The transport is scheduled to arrive at ESTEC on Saturday 24 June.  Here the fully integrated Planck FM telescope will undergo testing at low temperature (100-110K) in the Large Space Simulator (LSS) test facility.  The objective of the test is to measure the deformations of the fully integrated Planck FM telescope at low temperatures with video-grammetry.
