Venus Express Status Report - March 2008

Venus Express Status Report - March 2008

Mission StatusActivities relating to the exit from the quadrature period were successfully concluded. VIRTIS operations were resumed on 4 November 2007. Data from the first measurements show the situation on the cryo-cooler motor current to slowly improve again. The scientific data are of the same quality as before.

An S-band test, to study the earlier reported anomaly (a 15 dB decrease in S-band antenna gain) in more detail, was successfully executed and confirmed the results of the earlier tests. It also showed that no significant beam offset existed that could easily explain the observations. Further investigations into the anomaly continue.

Venus Express science team meetings were held in Moscow on 1-2 October 2007 and at ESTEC on 19-20 December 2007. During these meetings the pericentre lowering manoeuvres for mid-2008, were agreed.

The final move of the Venus Express science ground segment computer systems from ESTEC to ESAC was executed as planned, and completed by 14 December 2007.
