MHD simulation of solar wind entry deep into Earth's dayside magnetosheath

    Date: 16 Oct 2008
Copyright: Wenhui Li, University of New Hampshire, USA

MHD simulation of solar wind entry deep into the dayside magnetosheath resulting from high-latitude magnetopause reconnection in both hemispheres. The simulation results are in good agreement with the THEMIS observations of a thick (~1 Earth radius) cold-dense plasma sheet on closed field lines adjacent to the subsolar magnetopause.

This result was presented at the First Joint Cluster-THEMIS workshop, held 23-26 September 2008 at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, USA.
