Herschel reflection in the Planck Telescope

As the two spaceraft stand on either side of the S1B cleanroom at Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG), the Herschel spacecraft is seen reflected in the primary mirror of the Planck telescope.

The white object on the floor in front of Herschel is the Herschel vertical lifting device. To pretect the sensitive surface of the Herschel mirror a silver-coloured protection foil is in place over the Herschel telescope.

The box directly below the Planck primary mirror holds the LFI and HFI instruments' focal plane units in which the coldest components of the two instruments reside: the detectors.
