The SYLDA 5 support structure is slowly lowered in place over the Planck spacecraft, which was integrated with the Ariane 5 ECA launcher four days earlier on Thursday 23 April. This view up along the Planck spacecraft gives a look inside the SYLDA 5, with its tapered base, high cylindrical shell and an upper truncated conical shell. Also visible is the underside of the access platform at the top of the Planck spacecraft.

SYLDA 5 stands for Système de Lancement Double Ariane 5, and is a load bearing carbon structure that will be used to carry the Herschel spacecraft on top of the Planck spacecraft during their joint launch.
