SMART-1/AMIE view of Kaguya impact point

    Date: 11 Jun 2009
    Satellite: SMART-1
Depicts: AMIE image of Kaguya's impact point on the Moon

This SMART-1 high resolution map shows the Kaguya impact site for the latest prediction released by JAXA, with impact on 10 June 2009 at 3:25 JST (18:25 UT) at 80.4°E and 65.5°S.
The SMART-1 AMIE picture was taken on 31 January 2006 from a distance of 750 km with a field of view of 70 km.

North on the Moon is up in this view. The Kaguya orbiter sheared over the lunar surface, coming into this view from the south. An elevated crater rim is visible on the way of the probe. The crater rim slope will affect the impact angle of incidence, and therefore the impact flash and the dynamics of ejecta.
