COMPTEL all-sky image of 26Al gamma rays

    Date: 26 Nov 2010
    Satellite: COMPTEL
    Depicts: Galactic Emission
Copyright: From Plüschke et al, 2001.

This all-sky map shows the gamma-ray emission produced by the radioactive decay of 26Al, tracing regions with massive young stars throughout the Milky Way. This image was produced using data gathered by the COMPTEL instrument aboard NASA's Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory from 1991-2000.
