Proposals invited for the PROBA2 Guest Investigator Programme

Proposals invited for the PROBA2 Guest Investigator Programme

21 April 2011

The Royal Observatory of Belgium is soliciting proposals for analysis of data from PROBA2's solar observation instruments, SWAP and LYRA, under its Guest Investigator Programme. Proposals in response to this Second Call for Ideas are due by 30 June 2011.

The PROBA-2 Guest Investigator Programme is designed to share detailed knowledge of the SWAP and LYRA instruments - their calibration, handling and operations - with scientists outside the core Principal Investigator (PI) teams.

Those selected will be invited to visit the PROBA-2 Science Center and to spend a few months with the SWAP and LYRA PI teams. The successful proposers will participate in routine operation of the instruments in order to set up a dedicated observation campaign in accordance with the needs of their proposal.

The visits should be scheduled between September 2011 and June 2012. Each Guest Investigator will be expected to write a report on the activities performed. The primary goal for every selected proposer is a publication in a peer-reviewed journal arising from their research carried out under this programme.

Proposals from senior researchers are welcome, and early-stage postdoctoral and PhD students are particularly encouraged to apply. Each guest investigator will be reimbursed for travel, accommodation and living expenses. Up to seven proposals will be selected under this Second Call for Ideas. A third call will be made in early 2012 covering the period July to December 2012.

Proposals should be submitted in pdf format by email to swap_lyraoma.be by 30 June.

Submission deadline: 30 June 2011
Final selection: end July 2011

This Call is managed by the PROBA-2 Science Center at the Royal Observatory of Belgium, Brussels.
