In the coming decade fundamentally new observing platforms and space probes will become available for Solar System research.

This workshop will provide a forum to discuss the use of these future facilities, especially also to optimize scientific use and to establish synergies.

GOALS:

  • foster collaboration ground space (e.g. ESO-ESA)
  • define solar system science case for the E-ELT
  • refine solar system science case for ALMA
  • create synergies between different wave-bands

TOPICS:

Ground Based Support of Existing or Planned Space Missions

  • to comets and asteroids
(e.g. Rosetta, Dawn, Deep Impact and Stardust Wrap-up)
  • to outer Solar System and moons
    (e.g. Cassini-Huygens and New Horizons)
  • to terrestrial planets and the Moon
(e.g. Mars Express and Venus Express, Messenger and BepiColombo, Chandrayaan)
  • Future planetary missions
(e.g. within the ESA Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 Programme)

New Facilities

  • ALMA
  • JWST
  • extremely large telescopes (ELTs)
    (e.g. E-ELT, TMT or GMT)

Reviews and Reports on Work in Progress on

  • Main Belt asteroids
  • Giant planets, their moons and magnetospheres
  • TNOs (welcome Pluto)
  • Comets and Solar System formation
  • Extrasolar planets
