    Ulysses in Shuttle Cargo Bay

    The spacecraft was mounted on top of two propulsion modules, the Inertial Upper Stage (IUS) and the Payload Assisted Module (PAM). After deployment, the two-stage IUS was fired first, followed by the PAM, and Ulysses was injected into its interplanetary orbit.
