A wide-field image of the Veil Nebula, made as a colour composite from individual exposures from the Digitized Sky Survey 2. The field of view is 4.2° × 4.4°. North is up. The three areas imaged with Hubble are indicated (see related images).

The Veil Nebula - also known as the Cygnus Loop - is a large structure subtending an angle of about 3° on the sky. The bright western edge (on the right in this view) is also known as NGC 6960, or the Witch's Broom Nebula. The bright eastern edge (top left in this image) consists of NGC6992 (top half) and NGC6995 (bottom half). The bright star at right centre is 52 Cygni.
