ExoMars in bloom

ExoMars in bloom

Date: 24 June 2010
Depicts: The ExoMars Rover
Location: Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands
Copyright: ESA

This unusual depiction of the ExoMars Rover is a prize-winning display from the 2010 Bollenstreek Bloemencorso (an annual flower parade though the bulb-field region of the Netherlands) and is composed of hyacinth flower petals in various colours.

The display, created by Chris Tetteroo (seen here on the right) and Word van de Klugt (on the left), won second prize in the Bloemencorso, which this year had the theme of 'Travel through Europe'.

The 2010 Bloemencorso, which took place on Saturday 24 April travelled from Noordwijk, in the vicinity of ESA's establishment in the Netherlands, to the town of Haarlem, some 40 km away. More than 20 floats and 30 cars, lavishly decorated with flowers, participated in this annual parade.

It is estimated that more than one hundred thousand people viewed the parade along the route.

The flower displays were on view in the town of Noordwijkerhout (where this photograph was taken) on the evening before the parade. Chris and Word are pictured here with some members of the ExoMars team who came to admire this unique depiction of the Rover.
