The JAXA Venus Climate Orbiter mission, also known as Akatsuki, was launched on 21 May 2010 from the Tanegashima Space Center, Japan. The primary mission goal is to understand the atmospheric circulation of Venus. Akatsuki complements ESA's Venus Express mission.
