Last year, ESA called on the scientific community to propose new and innovative science ideas that could be relevant for future space missions within the Science Programme. From the proposals that were received three key areas of interest have been selected for further investigation.

Proposals are solicited for observations with INTEGRAL in response to the Fifteenth Announcement of Opportunity, AO-15, issued 20 February 2017. This AO covers the period January 2018 to December 2018. The deadline for submission of proposals is 31 March 2017, 14:00 CEST.

This year ESA is organising two teacher workshops dedicated to European primary and secondary school teachers. The summer edition will take place from 11 to 14 July 2017; the autumn edition from 5 to 8 October 2017.

Today, ESA launches a new version of its Planetary Science Archive (PSA) website, the online interface to data from the agency's space science missions that have been exploring planets, moons and other small bodies in the Solar System.

The 'Cassini Scientist for a Day' competition returns for a 2016/2017 edition. The competition is designed to give the participants a taste of life as a space scientist. Students are invited to submit a 500-word essay explaining their choice of one of three targets imaged by the Cassini spacecraft, in orbit around Saturn, over the past few years.

Today, ESA's LISA Pathfinder Science Archive opens its virtual gates to the world. It contains data collected by the satellite during the mission's first few months, covering the nominal operations phase of the LISA Technology Package (LTP) – the European payload on LISA Pathfinder.

Rosetta is set to complete its mission in a controlled descent to the surface of its comet on 30 September. Members of the media are invited to join Rosetta science and mission control experts at ESA's European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany, on 29 and 30 September, to follow the conclusion of this historic mission.

Media representatives are invited to a briefing on the first data release of ESA's Gaia mission, an astrometry mission to map the stars of our galaxy, the Milky Way. The media briefing is being organised at ESAC, in Spain, on Wednesday 14 September 2016, 11:30-13:00 CEST.

This AO covers the period May 2017 to April 2018 and is open to proposers from all over the world. The deadline for proposals is 7 October 2016 (12:00 UT).

Saturn, its moons, and rings provide the inspiration behind the 'Cassini scientist for a day' competition that is designed to give school students a taste of life as a space scientist. More than 900 students from across Europe participated in the 2015–2016 competition and the winners have now been selected.
