Rosetta's Last Images

Rosetta completed its historic mission at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko with a controlled descent to the comet's surface. In the evening of 29 September 2016, at 20:48 UTC, an orbit control manoeuvre set the spacecraft on course towards its final destination. From an altitude of about 19 km Rosetta descended to the comet's surface where it impacted on 30 September 2016, at 10:39 UTC. Due to the one-way light time of about 40 minutes, the loss of signal and end of mission was confirmed on Earth at 11:19 UTC. The images below were taken on Rosetta's final descent to the surface of the comet, ending with the mission's last image from an estimated altitude of about 20 m above the surface.
