Eta Carinae in Hard X-rays
Eta Carinae is a complex binary system, at a distance of around 8000 light years, with a large nebulosity surrounding the central objects. Observations with INTEGRAL have confirmed the nature of hard X-ray emission from the region to be from inverse compton scattered photons accelerated in a region where two stellar winds collide.

Hubble discovers 67 gravitationally lensed galaxies in the distant Universe [heic0806]
Astronomers using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope have compiled a large catalogue of gravitational lenses in the distant Universe. The catalogue contains a staggering 67 new gravitationally lensed images found around massive elliptical and lenticular-shaped galaxies.

Hubble finds double Einstein ring [heic0803]
Discovered in images taken with the Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys the gravitational lens system SDSSJ0946+1006 displays a unique double Einstein ring due to a fortuitous aligning of two distant galaxies and a foreground elliptical galaxy.

Hubble finds that 'blue blobs' in space are orphaned clusters of stars [heic0801]
The Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys has resolved mysterious "blue blobs" in a structure called Arp's Loop between the galaxies M81 and M82 and and found them to be brilliant blue clusters of stars born in the gas swirls and eddies induced by a galactic interaction 200 million years ago.

Titan Flyby - 5 January 2008
Almost sixteen days after Cassini's last Titan flyby, the spacecraft revisits Saturn's largest moon for its forty-first targeted encounter: T-40. The closest approach to Titan occurs on Saturday, 5 January, at 21:30:20 UT at an altitude of 1010 kilometres above the surface and at a speed of 6.3 kms-1. The latitude at closest approach is 12° S and the encounter occurs on orbit number 55.

Titan Flyby - 20 December 2007
On 20 December 2007, Cassini returns to Titan for its fortieth targeted encounter with the large moon: T39. The closest approach occurs at 22:57:55 UT at an altitude of 970 km above the surface with a relative speed of 6.3 kms-1. The latitude at closest approach is 70° S and the encounter occurs on orbit number 54.

Hazy red sunset on extrasolar planet [heic0720]
The nearby transiting planet HD 189733b has been observed during three transits with Hubble's ACS in spectroscopic mode. Study of the data has provided strong evidence for the presence of a high level haze layer on this Jupiter-sized exoplanet.
