Specialists from the EADS-Astrium Toulouse team (which built the Herschel telescope) performing the last precision cleaning of the Herschel primary mirror, in the S1B clean room at the Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG), Kourou.
The balloon-like structure in the centre of the primary mirror (behind the operator's right arm) is a temporary fixture to prevent contamination removed during cleaning from entering into the optical bench area behind the telescope.
