Herschel's view of star-forming galaxies in the COSMOS field
This image shows the COSMOS field as seen at far-infrared and sub-millimetre wavelengths with the SPIRE instrument on board ESA's Herschel Space Observatory. The COSMOS field is a two-square degree patch of the sky that is being extensively observed across the electromagnetic spectrum to study star formation in distant galaxies. The image contains thousands of galaxies; each dot in the image is a galaxy.
