James Webb Space Telescope emerging from Chamber A
The James Webb Space Telescope's optical telescope and integrated science instrument module (OTIS) was removed from Chamber A at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston on 1 December 2017. OTIS had completed about 100 days of cryogenic testing inside the huge thermal vacuum chamber. These tests were designed to ensure that the telescope functioned as expected in an extremely cold, airless environment that is comparable to conditions in deep space.
