Industry Space Day for the
Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 Technology Plan
Programme of Work 2008-2011

4 November 2008

European companies and institutes active in the space sector are invited to attend an Industry Space Day during which the programme of work for the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 Technology Plan will be presented. This Industry Space Day takes place on 21 November 2008 at the European Space Research and Technology Centre, ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands.

Cosmic Vision 2015-2025
In March 2007 ESA asked the scientific community to submit proposals for missions to be implemented in the period 2015-2025 within the Cosmic Vision Science Programme. The Space Science Advisory Committee selected a number of the submitted candidate missions to be further studied by ESA. By the end of this year the ESA Internal Assessment studies will have been completed for all of the candidate missions. The Industrial Assessment Phase for the M-class candidate missions is expected to be completed by end 2009, and for the L-class candidate missions by end 2010.

Technology developments for future missions
Spacecraft technology readiness is a crucial element in the decision process for mission implementation. A detailed technology plan for the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 candidate missions has been devised by the Advanced Studies and Technology Preparation Division (SRE-PA) of ESA's Science and Robotic Exploration Directorate. This division is tasked with the responsibility of technology preparation for all candidate missions in the Science Programme.

Industrial involvement in technology development activities
The plan consists of two categories of Technology Development Activity (TDA): the first category consists of the TDAs conducted by ESA for the spacecraft needs, and the second are those conducted by the Member States for the science payloads. Invitations to Tender for the activities falling under this first category will be issued, via EMITS, shortly. These activities will be discussed during the Industry Space Day. Full details can be found in the "Cosmic Vision Industry Space Day 2008" announcement (see link in right-hand column).

Agenda for the Industry Space Day
A series of presentations, beginning at 10:00 am in the Newton Room at ESTEC, will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to the meeting
  • Status of the Cosmic Vision Plan
  • Cosmic Vision Technology Development Plan, including details of the implementation of the plan

The presentations, which are expected to finish by 12:30, will be given by members of SRE-PA. They will then be available for bilateral discussions until 15:00.
