The image on the left shows the GRB 971214 field, obtained with the W.M. Keck 10-meter telescope on Mauna Kea, Hawaii about two days after the burst. The image on the right was obtained with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) aboard the Hubble Space Telescope about four months later.
