Variable stars in Hubble's sky

Satellite: Hubble Space Telescope
Copyright: ESA/Hubble & NASA, B. Merin

This animation shows a patch of the sky as observed by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. Some of the stars in this animation are variable stars, and appear to change their brightness over time; there are also several image artifacts that appear and disappear in the different frames (these are not variable sources).
