Report on Transit Activities

On 8 June 2004 a rare event was witnessed across the globe - a transit of Venus across the Solar disk. This page contains a montage of images from various ESA, and ESA associated observations.

ESTEC Observation

At ESTEC a number of telescopes were set up on site for viewing of the transit event with support provided by RSSD and Astronomy Club at ESTEC (ACE) members including: D. Koschny, A. Piot, R. Francis, O. Witasse, K. Wirth, G. de Marchi, M. Baroni and B.H. Foing (chief scientist). There were a number of impressive images acquired - including a plane crossing the Sun captured on video - with several hundred ESTEC colleagues viewing the event along with SPC delegates.

ESAC Observation

The prediction of poor weather meant the ESAC observers left Madrid and headed for Portugal where they sent back a series of images. The imaging team consisted of A.Martos, F.Rodriguez, J.Perea, R.Perez, B.Altieri, J.Ruiz, M.Perez, J.Fauste, R.Bailey.
