Micro-Coolers for Low-Temperature Detectors
One example is the normal metal-insulator-superconducting (NIS) cooler where cooling occurs at a NIS junction as electrons tunnel through the junction. The NIS cooler could provide the temperatures required by sensors currently not applicable to planetary science due to the cooler resources associated with conventional technologies.
