Welcome to the ESA Science and Technology Website

26 June 2003

Dear Reader,Welcome to the ESA Science and Technology web site (http://sci.esa.int). This site is aimed at the scientific and specialised communities in Space Science.

From here you can access updates and information on the Science Programme's projects and related activities. You can also find out about the technical aspects of our missions and use a variety of special features.

The web site is structured in individual phases of our projects: the Assessment, Definition, Implementation, Launch, and Operational/Exploitation Phases (see the following presentation for more information on these individual phases.) We also have links for each of our past missions and data archives.

This web site offers:

  • Simplified navigation, each mission page provides links to all the relevant information.
  • Topics, such as the Sun or Active Galactic Nuclei,  to help you identify the type of science being done by the individual missions.
  • A new Director's Desk to keep you up to date on news from the decision-makers of ESA.
  • A new Calendar Service to keep you informed of major events like conferences and symposia.
  • A section on recent publications for each mission in periodicals such as ESA Bulletin.
  • A 3D model of the satellite for each of our operational spacecraft, displaying its main features.
  • Direct access to the ESA Science General Public and Media web site with features that include: the latest news, media information packages, and a multimedia archive (http://www.esa.int/science)
  • Direct access to the Research Science and Support Department (http://www.rssd.esa.int/) for the specialised users of individual missions.

We hope you will enjoy this new site as much as we have enjoyed creating it!
