    Terrestrial ions populating the magnetosphere

    Date: 22 Nov 2004
    Satellite: Double Star
Depicts: Diagram of upflowing terrestrial ions

Sketch of upflowing terrestrial ions populating the magnetosphere. The thin lines show the trajectory of the ions. For simplicity the ions observed during quiet periods are shown in the Northern hemisphere and those observed during active periods are shown in the Southern hemisphere; in reality they are all observed in both hemispheres.
