Triangulation from Cluster C1, C2 and C4 satellites for the time interval 04:30-04:44 UT on 9 July 2001. Each direction is indicated as the angle spanned over 5° about the central direction. All point to a source region located Earthward from the orbit in the XY GSE plane shown; Geo orbits and direction angles are projected on to the plane.
The Geocentric Solar Ecliptic (GSE) system of coordinates is defined with the origin at the Earth. The X- and Y-axes lie in the ecliptic with the X-axis pointing towards the Sun and the Y-axis pointing in the direction opposite to the Earth's yearly motion. The Z-axis points to the ecliptic northpole.
