This figure shows the distribution of high-mass X-ray binary stars (blue stars) and star-forming complexes (green circles) superimposed on a model of the Milky Way's spiral arms from Russeil (2003). The red star represents the position of the Sun.

A study of the distribution of high-mass X-ray binary stars, using data from ESA's INTEGRAL space observatory, has shown a strong correlation between the position of the X-ray emitting stars and the complexes of star formation in the Galaxy.
