Currently the Herschel flight model spacecraft comprises the cryostat vacuum vessel (CVV) mated with the service module.

This image shows the setup for the cooldown of the CVV. Scaffolding around the flight model allows access to the CVV atop the service module (outside this view, resting on the vertical integration stand for handling of the spacecraft on the ground).
