Herschel arrives in French Guiana

The Herschel spacecraft arrived at Rochambeau airport, French Guiana, in the early hours of the morning of 12 February. The spacecraft and containers carrying support equipment were unloaded and subsequently transported to the launch site at Kourou by road.

The Antonov cargo plane arrived at Rochambeau airport, French Guiana, in the early hours of 12 February 2009.

Containers of support equipment are unloaded from the rear of the airplane.

The 'nose' of the Antonov is raised .... 

...to remove the custom-built container carrying the Herschel spacecraft.

The custom-built container is moved by crane ...

...  onto the back of a truck ...

...in preparation for transport by road to the launch site at the Centre Spatial Guyanais, Kourou.
