Back Inspection of the telescope at Centre Spatial Guyanais

Inspection of the telescope at Centre Spatial Guyanais

Date: 14 February 2009
Satellite: Herschel
Depicts: Inspection of the Herschel primary mirror under UV light
Location: Cleanroom of S1B building, CSG, Kourou, French Guiana
Copyright: ESA-CNES-Arianespace / Optique Vidéo du CSG

During the cleaning process the Herschel mirrors were inspected a number of times under UV light with other illumination in the clean room turned off. This is common practice when examining the cleanliness of a surface and provides the ability to pick up particles which fluoresce under UV.
