Close proximity work near the Herschel telescope primary mirror requires great care and concentration for the operator, with cooperation from his colleagues to ensure that neither he nor any part of the equipment used comes into contact with the optical surface. Here, specialists from the EADS-Astrium Toulouse team (which built the Herschel telescope) performing the last precision cleaning of the Herschel primary mirror, in the S1 clean room at the Centre Spatial Guyanais (CSG), Kourou.
