This one day workshop introduces the capabilities of the SPIRE Fourier Transform Spectrometer as demonstrated during the first year of Herschel operations. Examples will be given of the different observing programmes that are possible with the instrument. The meeting will discuss the achievable sensitivity and observing strategies and promote use of the FTS in the upcoming call for Herschel Open Time.
