The international team was responsible for the design, construction and delivery of the SPIRE instrument as part of the instrument suite for ESA's Herschel Space Observatory. The team was led by SPIRE Principal Investigator Matt Griffin, from Cardiff University, with Laurent Vigroux, from the Institut d'astrophysique de Paris (IAP) as SPIRE Co-Principal Investigator.
The team was awarded the 2014 Group Achievement Award of The Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) in recognition by the astronomical community of the outstanding success of the SPIRE instrument.
