25 July 1998

ESA was created at the European Space Conference in Brussels in July 1973. To mark the 25th anniversary of this event, ESA has issued a short history "ESA, Looking Forward...Looking Back".

It includes a reminiscence by Charles Hanin, the Belgian Minister who chaired the original meeting, and goes on to review ESA's acheivements in space communications, Earth observation, space science, launchers and manned spaceflight.
