Sensors and analytical instrumentation for water detection
An instrument package is required that can measure the water cycle between the martian atmosphere and the soil.
In order to achieve this goal the methods have to be capable of measuring the atmospheric humidity as well as water (ice) layers on soil grains down to a thickness of single molecular layer. In addition, analytic tasks like soil composition shall also be addressed. The developed instrument shall fit into the resource envelope of ESA's mole, a ground penetrating device, which can reach a depth of up to 5 meters.
