Solar Orbiter High-Gain Antenna steering test

Date: 15 June 2018
Copyright: SENER Aerospace

A steering test of the High-Gain Antenna (HGA) of ESA's Solar Orbiter mission performed in June 2018 at SENER – the antenna's prime contractor – in Bilbao, Spain.

The HGA is located on the end of a 1-m long, movable boom, which can extend above or below the heat shield to achieve a reliable link with ground stations on Earth and transmit the huge volumes of data generated by the mission's scientific payload.
