This UV image of the southern polar region of Venus was taken by Venus Express Venus Monitoring Camera (VMC) from a distance of approximately 20 000 km (orbit #1263, 5 October, 2009). The south pole is in the upper right corner. High latitudes are characterized by the presence of thin dark circular or spiral features that indicate local jets and waves.
